“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it”
Proverbs 22:6
The goal of Religious Education is to pass along the Christian Faith. The Christian Faith is the only thing that is going to last beyond your life and the life of your child! Faith is the most precious gift, so precious in fact that the most important thing that you as a parent can do is nourish the faith in Jesus Christ that God created in baptism. Of course the difficult question is, How do we do that? We get some help in Deuteronomy 6: 6&7 “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.
Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” In fact this is so important that God shares almost the exact same words again in Deuteronomy 11:19. God give us certain promises along with His Word, “11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55. And from 2 Timothy 3, “14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”
Redeemer is your close partner in passing along the Faith to your child. We are here to give you the resources, the encouragement and training. This is why we are providing you with a Sunday School program, Confirmation Program, Wednesday FUN along with Adult Bible Study to strengthen your own faith. This is to be a time of sharing, learning and growth for your child and yourself. We pray that every child would come together and grow in faith, thereby growing in a relationship with their Savior.
You are the primary religious educator of your child, we know that the content that is shared during classes at Redeemer will help your child come to know the saving love of Jesus better and assist you in your task of training up a child in the way they should go.
