There is a 0.0296% chance your child will become a professional athlete. There is a 100% chance your child will stand before Jesus. Get them to church.
Mark 9:42 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea.
Surely I am not… I am not causing my child to stumble. There are so many, too many, things that our Children can be involved in. A parent must pick and choose. So what do you choose?
The goal of Religious Education is to pass along the Christian Faith. The Christian Faith is the only thing that is going to last beyond your life and the life of your child, and for that reason it is a precious commodity, so precious in fact that the most important thing that you as a parent can do is nourish the faith in Jesus Christ, that God created in baptism.
Of course the difficult question is, How do we do that?
We get some help in Deuteronomy 6: 6&7 “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
In fact this is so important that God shares almost the exact same words again in Deuteronomy 11:19. God did not say “create a multi-dimensional, highly interactive Sunday School program.” Or, “offer a VBS program that is so creative and fun that the kids can’t help but grow in their faith.” No, God did not command these things, and while they are still good things to do, they are not the bread and butter of a child’s Religious Education.
The command that God gives is for parents to talk about their faith to their child as much as they can and impress it upon them with actions. Simply put, God has made you the primary religious educators of your children. Redeemer is your close partner in passing along the Faith to your child. We are here to give you the resources, the encouragement and training. This is why we are providing you with Sunday School. This is to be a time of sharing, learning and growth for your child.
We pray that every Sunday you and your children would come together and grow in faith, thereby growing in a relationship with their Savior. We have assembled many different age appropriate curriculum’s that focus on Christ. You can get the lessons early if you know you will be out of town for a certain day, just talk to your child’s Sunday School teacher. However; it is best that your child attend as many Sunday School classes as possible. When your child misses Sunday School they not only miss out on the lesson but also the important relationships that are being formed in the class that will help your child as they grow. We live under the Amazing and Free Grace of God given us in Jesus Christ! The main issue of life, the issue of our worth and identity has been taken care of.
The Cross of Christ proclaims that we are Children of the Heavenly Father.
