About Us
The Congregation of Redeemer of Interlochen was organized in 1973 as a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) and has been concerned with providing opportunities for service through the Katharine Guild (a woman’s service group), food pantry and baby pantry. We also serve as a meeting space for Alcoholics Anonymous, Alanon, the Senior Care Network and the Homeschool Enrichment Network (HEN). Other opportunities for Christian growth include confirmation instruction, adult instruction, Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and seasonal evening Bible study.

Our Leadership
Pastor Jason is our full-time Pastor for Redeemer of Interlochen. Originally from Colorado, Pastor Jason attended Concordia University in Nebraska. After marrying his wife in 2001, Pastor Jason served in several roles at Holy Cross and Redeemer. An avid guitarist and singer, Pastor Jason also loves the great outdoors and spending time with his family.

Pastor Brand is our Pastor of Christian Discipleship
for Redeemer of Interlochen. Timothy John Brand was born in Albert Lea, MN in 1965. His family later moved to Wisconsin. In 1987, Reverend Dr. Timothy Brand graduated from Concordia River Forest with a Bachelor of Arts degree in pre-seminary studies, elementary education and Director of Christian Education. From 1987 to 1996, he served congregations as a DCE in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana. He graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1996, at which time he was called to Saint Michael’s Lutheran Church in Traverse City, Michigan for 11 years. From 2008 to 2010, he served as vacancy pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Interlochen, Michigan. He served Salem National Evangelical Lutheran Church in Westland, Michigan from 2011 to 2015. In 2015, he was called to Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Caledonia Michigan, where he served until May 2025. In 2017, Pastor Brand completed his Doctorate of Ministry from Covenant Seminary with an emphasis on pastoral leadership and biblical church governance. In February 2025, Reverend Dr. Timothy Brand was certified as a Transition Interim Pastor. He also served Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Conklin, Michigan.
Tim married Susan in 1987. She also graduated from Concordia River Forest with a Bachelors Degree and her Lutheran teaching diploma. In 1999, she earned her Masters in Curriculum and Teaching from Michigan State University. She taught at Trinity Lutheran school in Traverse City, Michigan for 26 years before retiring in 2022. They have four children: Alex, and his wife, Elizabeth and their child Henry; Steven; Jacob and his wife, Elizabeth and their two children, Trevor and Aria; Rachel and her fiancé Anthony. The Brand’s continue to reside in Mayfield Michigan just south of Traverse City.

By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through him
Scripture Alone
the Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.

Our History
The congregation of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Interlochen was first formed in 1973 by a group of Christians meeting and worshipping at the Green Lake Township Hall. In 1974, the congregation was formally accepted as a member of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. In the early years, the congregation was served by the Rev. James Moehring.
The congregation was blessed and grew; and in 1977, the present property was purchased. In 1979, a temporary worship facility was built and dedicated at the present site. In 1981, the congregation called the Rev. Timothy Mowry to serve as its first resident pastor. On July 10, 1988, a new 8500 square foot worship and study facility was dedicated to the building of His Kingdom. On Aug. 15, 2004 Jason Bauer was installed as our Director of Christian Education. After Rev. Timothy Mowry was called to his heavenly home on May 26, 2008, Rev. Timothy Brand served Redeemer as Interim Pastor until Rev. Mark Berlin was installed as our new Pastor on Sept. 19, 2010. Rev. Jason Bauer was installed as our Assistant Pastor on Jan. 18, 2011. Rev. Mark Berlin retired in May of 2023 and Rev. Jason Bauer was installed as our full-time Pastor on July 2, 2023. Rev. Dr. Timothy Brand was installed as our Pastor of Christian Discipleship on Jan. 25, 2026.
Through the years God has blessed us in wonderful ways which have allowed us to grow in blessing to others. We look to the future with confidence in God’s continued blessings. Perhaps you are a gift from God to help us grow in blessing to others.
As you look at the rock wall in our sanctuary you begin to notice the individual stones. Some are plain and quite ordinary while others stand out with particular attraction. All of those stones are needed to comprise the whole. With any of the stones missing the wall would be less than it is. A Christian congregation is a lot like that wall. Each individual is a stone, one who plays a unique part in forming the whole.
Unlike our stone wall, the construction of our congregation isn’t yet complete. We continue to add stones, moving toward the completeness which God is bringing about. What a joy to see all the new smiling stones dispersed among the older parts of our congregation!
